School holidays are over and as we head back to school, now is the time to get back into routines. Set up for for a healthy year ahead with these essential dental hygiene practices.
To enjoy good oral health throughout life, establishing and maintaining a good diet and oral hygiene practices during childhood are essential. It’s important to instil good dental habits in your children from a young age.
Set up your dental routine
We all know we should brush twice a day and flossing is great too. To make sure it actually happens, make it a fun routine with colourful tooth brushes, competitions to see who can brush for 2 minutes or set up a chart with stickers with a reward at the end.
Schedule in trips to see the dentist
Dental check ups are recommended every six months; or more frequently if your child is experiencing problems with their teeth. The earlier you start coming in to see us, the greater the chances they will continue the habit as an adult.
Reward good habits
Why not give your child an incentive whenever they do something that contributes to great dental health. For example every time they choose healthy food over ‘junk’ food they get a reward.
Use a mouthguard
Sport classes are an essential part of school and using a mouthguard can help protect their teeth from injuries. Custom mouthguards are available for a perfect fit.
